Praying for Your Marriage: A Daily Practice That Changes Everything

Valentine’s Day hit a little different this year.

I found myself reflecting—not on chocolates or flowers—but on the deep, God-given responsibility I have as a husband. And as I sat down to record a video for other men, I realized something: a lot of us want to lead our homes well, but we don’t always know where to start.

That’s why I want to talk to you today about something powerful, simple, and often overlooked: praying for your marriage.

I Didn’t Always Know How to Pray for My Wife

Maybe you’re like I was—unsure what to say, how to cover your wife in prayer, or what areas to focus on. You might be wondering, “Am I doing enough?” or “What if I don’t know what she really needs?”

Let me tell you something: You don’t have to have the perfect words. You just need a willing heart.

I prayed for you before you even clicked play.

Before I hit record, I prayed that whoever landed on this message would walk away with clarity and confidence in how to spiritually support their wife. That means you. And now I want to walk with you through this.

Why Praying for Your Marriage Matters

Marriage isn’t just a contract. It’s a covenant—a picture of Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5:25–27). When you pray for your wife, you’re stepping into the role God gave you as spiritual leader and protector. You’re inviting God into the very heart of your relationship.

James 5:16 says, “The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.”
Your prayers have more power than you realize.

What I Pray Over My Wife—and Why

When I started intentionally praying for my wife, I began with these four areas:

1. Her Mind

The world bombards her daily with lies about her worth and identity. I ask God to fill her with truth and peace.

“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2)

2. Her Walk with God

She needs personal strength from the Lord. I pray she hungers for His Word and grows in her own faith journey.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” (Matthew 6:33)

3. Her Emotions

Some days are heavy. I pray for comfort, joy, and the ability to cast her cares on Jesus.

“Cast all your cares on Him, because He cares about you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

4. Our Unity

I ask God to guard our marriage from division, increase our love, and help us forgive quickly.

“Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” (Colossians 3:14)

Prayer Isn’t Just for Crisis—It’s for Strengthening What’s Good

You don’t have to wait until things are hard to start praying. In fact, prayer is what builds the kind of marriage that can withstand the storms when they do come.

You’re not just praying for your wife. You’re praying for your children’s mother, your ministry partner, your best friend. And in doing so, you’re building something eternal.
